Harbour St
Standing proudly above the Waitematā, surrounded by native nīkau palms, what began as a bare-framed shell quickly revealed itself to be one of the most technically challenging renovations we’ve undertaken. As we stripped back the layers, hidden complexities emerged - structurally and the kind of surprises that only reveal themselves once you’re deep in the build. But with every challenge came opportunity - to rebuild, to strengthen and to do it properly.
Guided by the client’s vision and deep respect for the home’s original design, we approached the project with the intent to honour its character while future-proofing it for generations. Every decision balanced heritage and innovation, retaining what made the home special, while enhancing its structure, function and value.
The full renovation included complete interior and exterior transformation: recladding, new framing and interior reconfiguration, as well as refined finishing that connected the home seamlessly to its surroundings. The result is breathtaking - a retreat that feels both grounded and elevated, with panoramic views that stretch across the Waitematā.
“This wasn’t just a renovation,” says Hutch. “It was a rebuild in every sense - structurally & aesthetically. The client had a vision our job was to bring that to life, piece by piece.”
Now, the home stands renewed, light-filled, open and connected to its setting. Every detail, from the way the timber catches the afternoon sun to the way the spaces flow together, speaks to balance and intention. It’s a build that feels alive - a fusion of old and new, craftsmanship and creativity.
